Alien Abduction: The Uninvited

Pope, Nick, The Uninvited: An Exposé of The Alien Abduction Phenomenon, London: Simon & Schuster, 1997, pp316, Hardback w/Dustjacket.

Once in awhile, an interesting book about UFOs would pop up in a small bookshop downtown selling used books. I would not hesitate to buy such a book at the first instance, especially when it was selling at a bargain price.

1998/1999 Singapore Street Directory

Ministry of Law, Singapore Street Directory, 19th Edition, Singapore: SNP Corporation Ltd, 1998, pp591.

As years gone by, this kind of guidebook became larger and larger (due to more roads and highways being built) and its pages have color maps and advertisements.

The size of this issue is almost that of a coffee table book.

Coca-Cola Trays

McClintock, William, Coca-Cola Trays, Atglen, PA: Schiffer Publishing Ltd, 1996, pp126 inc. color illustrations.

I ain't much of a collector of those fancy Coca-Cola collectibles. But when a friend gave me this colorful paperback recently, I was pleased to accept it. This paperback has large prints and it's a good guidebook.

Wine Buyer's Guide

Pocket Wine Buyer's Guide 1999, London: Dorling Kindersley Limited, 1998, pp368. Leather jacket.

This is a nice pocket guidebook that I'd bought from Romie's bookshop sometime last month.

Gold Producers Handbook

Gold Producers Handbook 1991, Sydney (Australia): Australian Stock Exchange Limited, (1991), pp189 inc charts.

This large paperback was bought in 1992 at a high price from Times The Bookshop downtown.

A long way back in 1991, the market price of gold was about the same as the price of platinum. It was a golden opportunity back then for anyone to exchange all his or her gold into platinum and becomes rich by now 'coz the price of platinum is more than twice the price of gold nowadays.

It's easy to mention this missed opportunity on hindsight.

Essentials of Marketing

E. Jerome McCarthy and William D. Perreault, Essentials of Marketing, Fifth Edition, Boston: Irwin, 1991, pp526 inc. color illustrations. Nice Used Hardback. As Good As New.

This heavy hardcover book weighs about 1.3 kilograms and it is a wonderful reference book for the serious reader who's into marketing. No problem if you're just a casual reader 'coz those charts, illustrations, and large prints are easy on the eyes.

I would like to offer this hardback at a reasonable price to any serious or casual reader who appreciates the pleasure of owning a nice reference book like this.

The reader is strongly advised to collect this heavy book from me at Yew Tee mrt station because packing and mailing it by post is going to incur quite a substantial cost. Besides, I might not have the material to pack such a large and heavy book.

Selling these 31 Nice Used Books

In the afternoon of Sunday, April 8, a friend had driven a good distance to my place of residence and handed over to me a huge lot of 31 interesting books, 30 paperbacks and one hardback.

He'd asked me to help him to sell these nice used books at Yahoo! Auctions Singapore, and I am now thinking several descriptions to write about these books in order to create those auctions pages.

But first of all, I have to shoot several nice photographs of everyone of these books individually.

Meanwhile, I have to find some space in my bookshelf to stack up these books carefully 'coz it may take quite awhile to sell them on auctions. SOLD!

Intermediate Numismatic Correspondence Course

American Numismatic Association, Intermediate Numismatic Correspondence Course, USA: Copyright 1978 ANA, 20 Chapters, inc 20 Question & Answer Sheets, and one blue hardcover folder.

Chapter 17: Medieval Coinage.
Chapter 18: Part 1 - Modern Coins, Part 2 - Collecting Foreign Coins.
Chapter 19: Numismatic Exhibits and Exhibiting.
Chapter 20: Taxation of Coin Collections.

This is a compilation of 384 pages of numismatic knowledge that the collector of coins and paper money won't wanna miss. The ring-folder has aged somewhat for the past 26 years but this slight defect isn't a problem. Remember the old saying that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover.

I'd paid US$25.00 (about SGD$57.00 in 1980) to ship it all the way here from the USA, and thus this compilation might be the only copy around in Singapore after all these doggone years.

New Guide to the Moon

Moore, Patrick, New Guide to the Moon, New York: WW Norton & Company, Inc., 1976, pp320 (text), pp16 (b/w photos).

Here's another hardcover book written by the same author about space exploration and the moon. I'd bought this interesting book about 12 years ago from a bookshop in The Adelphi at Coleman Street.

Fodor's People's Republic of China, 1983

Summerfield, John, Fodor's People's Republic of China 1983, New York: Fodor's Travel Guides, 1983, pp609 (text), pp8 (color photos).

This thick guide book was a nice gift in 1984 from a student from China studying in the USA, who might be hoping that I would visit China someday. But the closest I'd ever gone somewhere near China was to Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Gem Hunter's Guide

MacFall, Russell P., Gem Hunter's Guide: How to Find and Identify Gem Minerals, 5th Revised Edition, Reprint, New York: Bell Publishing Company, 1989, pp323 inc b/w illustrations.

This hardcover book is a complete amateur collector's manual to the precious and semi-precious gems of North America.

Meanwhile, check out another book written about gems by clicking here.

The Gold Companion

Green, Timothy, The Gold Companion: The A-Z of Mining, Marketing Trading and Technology, London: Rosendale Press Ltd, 1991, pp159 inc illustrations.

While browsing for books inside Times The Bookshop downtown Kuala Lumpur in 1998, I'd come across this attractive hardcover book and bought it without much hesitation. This book is almost like a handy encyclopaedia of gold.

Guide to Collecting Silver

Holland, Margaret, Silver: An Illustrated Guide to Collecting Silver, London: Cathay Books, 1978, pp144 inc illustrations. Dustjacket. As Good as New.

Bought from the former MPH bookshop at Stamford Road in 1979, this is a large hardcover book about collecting silver objects used at the table and in the house. It's illustrated with 45 superb color and over 120 black & white illustrations.

Phaidon Guide to Pewter

Brett, Vanessa, Phaidon Guide to Pewter, Oxford: Phaidon Press Ltd, 1981, pp256 inc illustrations.

This is the most recent book that I'd bought from Romie, just two days after Christmas of 2006. It's a nice used hardcover book and its pages are made from good quality paper.

It's a nice way to end the year of 2006 and herald the year of 2007 by reading about some collectibles that I like.
